A Garden Wonderland in Madison

On the Sunday before I left home after a terrific visit, I visited the garden of my Mom’s friends, Trisha, and Noel.

Noel explained that when he first started the garden a number of years ago he brought in truckloads of compost. Now, each year he tills the entire garden plot (huge) under with a big tractor and tiller. It’s been a wet season so far in Madison and his heirloom Polish tomatoes are suffering from the same black blight at the bottom of the fruit as we’re seeing in the backyard at 206 N. 4th St. The pole beans are just starting to come in and the herb garden is an absolute delight. The melon and squash patches on each end of the garden are jungles unto themselves. And the raspberries, you must wonder? Delightful. Absolutely Lovely.

Before we left, Trisha showed me her canned goods cache. All I could say was, “You are Barbara Kingsolver!”

Trisha IS Barbara Kingsolver!

Well, I feel honored to have made an appearance on the blog (twice!?!?). It was our pleasure and we truly enjoy sharing our hobby with someone who really gets excited and appreciates it!!! Today I’m making cucumber soup (using our cucumbers and leeks) and pickling the last batch of beets. Hope your goodies are coming in as well. –Trisha
